Breast Health
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women. Seventy-five percent of all breast cancers occur in women over 50 years of age. The diagnosis is usually unexpected and overwhelming, however, breast cancer is a very treatable disease. The Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Center offers a team of specialists including a medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, breast surgeon, nurse specialist and WINS breast cancer support group volunteer (Women's Information Network Support). The team provides each newly diagnosed or recurrent breast cancer patient with information about breast cancer and treatment options. They also meet with the woman and her family to plan for her individualized treatment.
Risk factors for breast cancer include breast cancer in a sister, mother or daughter, menopause after age 55, never giving birth or first birth after age 30, or starting menstruation before age 12. Early detection of breast cancer is your best defense.
