Pediatric Fluoroscopy Room

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy has two fundamental differences from traditional Diagnostic X-Ray. First, the images are captured much like a movie camera, and thus images are seen “live” on a television monitor; second, the studies often require the addition of a contrast agent, which is a substance that is introduced into the body to specifically set apart a particular organ or particular area of interest for further analysis. This contrast agent is usually barium or an iodine-based contrast, depending on the exam.

Fluoroscopy can be used in a myriad of ways, but the most popular is to image the gastrointestinal (GI) system, the urinary system, and the spine.

Most of the exams performed at Sparrow Radiology/Fluoroscopy are for this purpose. The most common exams are explained in detail on this site.

Fluoroscopy services are provided at the Ramblewood Imaging Center and Sparrow Hospital locations.
